What are the benefits of Live Scan?

In addition to being an extra source of revenue for departments administering tests to thousands of California residents desiring to work in the large number of occupations requring occupational licenses, the State of California and the Department of Justice claim that Live Scan will avoid many of the problems associated with ink prints, such as smudging, smearing, over or under inking, and submitting fingerprints of dead people. A major benefit of Live Scan is in processing speed since nearly all of those without criminal records are done within 3 days. Rolled ink prints (traditionally submitted on a fingerprint card) can take 10 to 12 days to process and up to 60 days if there is a criminal record, and an indeterminate period of time if the applicant is dead.
